Admitting mistakes

Uncle Dan here, with just a few words here between podcasts.

I heard most of President Bush's speech this morning...and...pretty much, more of the same useless shit came out of his mouth. I get so sick of hearing about the so-called "War on Terror" and Sept. 11th. When will it end? O well, we can keep talking about that.

But the one thing that bugs me to NO end-NOT only about this president, but about people in general: WHY IS IT CONSIDERED WEAK FOR ONE TO ADMIT A MISTAKE???

Personally, I was raised with the notion that, if you make a mistake, own up to it, swallow your pride, and humbly admit it. Nobody is perfect. I know if you were to ask, both myself and Abu Snookums could come up with mistakes and errors we have made in our lives, and I'm sure all those who read this can as well.

In my personal life I see this as well. People will make any excuse to cover-up a mistake in order to make themselves look good. All a part of the "tough guy" metality that has seemingly taken over. Us Americans are getting collectively dumber every day.

If Bush simply gave a speech that said something to the effect of "I'm sorry, we mis-read the intelligence, and we underestimated (or misunderestimated) the ferocity of the insurgentds...and I apologize."

But, even if he meant it, which is up to much doubt-he would never say it. Because his constituancy is full of these macho beer drinkin' tough talkin' guys who think admitting one's mistakes is akin to having sex with another man.

Well, I just don't get it. Bush's base would go nuts if he were humble.

The way I was raised, humility is a virtue-but, it's not in this country anymore.

Well, thats all I have-let me know what you think, leave me a comment!

Episode 52: A late Western Star edition

listen here

Abu Snookums thinks Uncle Dan is a Muslim. Whether it is the case or not, is up to the listener.

Uncle Dan also reveals Christmas to be a sham - send all hate mail to RadioWC@Gmail.com.

The Western Star features some good fun from our friends down in Morrow, and the folks in Washington can learn a thing or two from the Morrow City Council about admitting mistakes.

All that, plus what's behind the lack of minority teachers in Lebanon City Schools?

Finally, we dissect the complicated relationship dynamics that take place between 18 month old Snookums and 9 day old Snookums II.

Radio W.C. 50th!

listen here

Yes, it's our 50th anniversary, and we take a trip down memory lane to share the highs, the lows, the triumphs, the defeats, and the Western Star for 50 years.

From the days when we were broadcasting from someone's barn on the most powerful radio station in the country (which was impeded due to the fact that our frequency was 490khz, out of range of most radios), to the days when FM was all the rage, and we pumped out the truth on 109.4FM (still wondering why our only response came from small aircraft).

Also, as a special suprise to our faithful fans for the past 50 years, we present Radio W.C.'s VERY FIRST episode, from back in November 1955. And a big thanks to all the support you have given over the years.

New Arrival

Baby Snooks II was welcomed into the world at approximately 2:30 this morning. At almost 8lbs. he weighs in slightly bigger than his older brother at his birth weight.

All is well with Dad, Mom and baby (other than sleep deprivation). So write in your congrats to Abu Snookums here at RadioWC@gmail.com .

Just thought I'd let you all know. Look for a podcast sometime over the weekend.

Episode 49: We thought it would be short, but, you know better than that

listen here

Abu Snookums brings up a new Muslim anti-violence organization. We also wanted to let you know about Nadia Anjuman from Afghanistan who was beaten to death by her husband, and domestic violence in general-and the Radio W.C. solution.

Abu Snookums love to babble on and on as always...but, the world is a better place for it.

Also, what's up with the U.S. Marine Corps? Lots of brainwashing there. But, we admit, the brainwashing of scuicide bombers is worse.

Bear with us as we gear up for big number 50, and have a great week.

Episode 48: We thought it was episode 47...we suck...sorry!

listen here

After bashing Adam Corolla (which can never be done enough), we try to tie in the Crusades, the Iraq War, and everything else all in one big hour long bowl of podcasting stew for your pleasure.

Last week the History Channel aired a 4-hour documentary on the crusades-we dissect it and bring it up to date.

We also discuss the chemical weapons used in the Iraq war last year. See if you can guess who used them on whom.

Episode 47: Shortest episode yet about the local election wrap-up.

listen here

After a short discussion of the auntumn weather, we discuss the results of the 2005 election. By the way-the Lebanon School Tax levy did pass, but by a rather narrow margin (51-48%).

Uncle Dan gave his theory of why Issues 2, 3, 4, and 5 failed-and why it's not the end of the world, since the GOP is finally gettin' what's coming to them in other parts of the country.

But, all in all, lots of good things happened across the country-so there is a glimmer of hope for the future.

BAH!

Well, as of this posting, it looks as if Ohio Ballot Issues 2, 3, 4 and 5 are going down to defeat. I did my best, I cast my vote, but it wasn't enough it seems. It was a good attempt to do something about the problems in this state. Issue 2 seems like easily the best-early voting would be very helpful.

But, the GOP's forces worked here. The good news however, is that VA and NJ have elected Democratic governors-so there is hope for the future of the nation, if not for Ohio.

Episode 46: Western Star previewing the election

listen here

Uncle Dan fixes the education problem in America. And we continue to senselessly ridicule "The Western Star.'

We also point out that, if you tried, you could be a Jew, Christian, and a Muslim all at the same time.

Whatever, it's all good, worth a listen, and a bit shorter so you can listen more often!

Episode 45: Chit-chat about the early Eid this year

Listen here

You'll learn about the Eid, Ramadan, and Muslim stuff. It's a good "primer" for ya.

And more stuff about Bill O'Reilly being a dick, which we know.

And more about talk radio, and radio and the FCC as well.
